Sporting history for Castletroy College

An U16 Boys Basketball team was entered in the South West boys competition for the first time ever in Sept 2018 and they qualified for the C All Ireland final, making a bit of sporting history for the school.

An exceptionally enthusiastic group trained every Wednesday evening. The boys played against Croom and Gaelcholaiste in the Limerick League and had convincing wins. Next it was the SW Regional Semi Final and into the Regional Final against Killorglin of Kerry. They next represented the South West in the All Ireland playoffs which Castletroy hosted on Jan 13th with two great wins against Le Cheile Tyrellstown and St Michaels Rosscarberry .

We got an amazing sporting opportunity to play the All Ireland quarter finals in the NBA in Tallaght on Feb 25th and had a great win over CBS Ennistymon. One hour latter we played the All Ireland semi final against Salesian College Cellbridge and after an unbelievable display of skill and team work Castletroy won 66-41. Last match and what an achievement to be playing in the All Ireland final in Tallaght NBA against St Marks of Tallaght. At half time we led by one basket. - all to play for. After an honourable display and huge pride in the Jersey we were narrowly beaten by a slightly stronger team on the day 54-50.

Huge thanks must go to their coach Leandro Ruiz and teachers Ms Vaughan and Ms Jones for their dedication to the team .A massive thank you to our sponsor Kenneth T Griffin Construction who presented the boys with the first ever boys Basketball kit..

First year girls - All Ireland C Semi Finalists and South West Regional Winners, huge achievement girls.
