Swimming
Swimming is just one of the various sports offered by Castletroy College. Over the years, with a lot of hard work from the coordinator Ms Jones and of course all the students involved we have succeeded in achieving the following.
2007-2008:
- Grainne Murphy won 3 gold medals in the All Ireland finals in Dublin.
2008-2009:
Grainne Murphy in 5th yr, is the fastest female Irish swimmer in history in 200m.
- At the European Championship in Prague she won gold in the individual medley 400m and bronze in the 1500 m freestyle.
- On July 26th Grainne aged 16 broke the Irish Senior record for 200m individual medley at the World Championship in Rome.
Munsters Interschools gala report.
- Both u.14 relay teams came second in the final.
- Steohen Burke came second in the 100m freestyle and qualified for the All Ireland finals.
- Molly English came 3rd in the 100mbreaststroke and qualified for the National finals.
2010-2011:
- Grainne Murphy won 3 European silver medals representing Ireland at Senior level.
2011-2012:
8 students represented the school in the Munster schools gala on Nov 6th.
- Eimear Hickey, Bronnagh le Gear and Sean English qualified for the All Ireland finals in Dublin’s NAC.
2012-2013:
Munster schools gala success.
- Shona Hickey 2 gold and Eimear Hickey 2 gold.
- Bronnagh le Gear and Kate Gaffney a bronze each.
- Senior boys relay won gold and silver in the 4x50 relays.
- Girls relay teams were second in two events.
- Eimear and Shona Hickey and Kevin Quiqley qualified for the All Ireland finals in the NAC in May.
2013-2014:
- Senior boys won the Munster final for the second year in a row.
Two students attended the All Ireland finals in NAC in Dublin.
- Shona Hickey bronze in 400m freestyle.
- Sarah Carey came fifth in the 100m butterfly.
2014-2015:
20 students represented at the Munster schools gala in December.
- Medal winners were Shona Hickey Bronnagh le Gear, Rory McEvoy and Sarah Carey.
- Girls senior relay won gold.
- Girls junior relay won silver.
2015-2016:
11 students represented the school in the Munster schools in UL on November 22nd.
- Aaron Caroll won gold in the backstroke and silver in butterfly at Junior level.
- Sarah Carey won bronze in the butterfly at Intermediate level.
- Shona Hickey won silver in the backstroke and bronze in freestyle at Senior level.
- Senior boys medley relay won bronze.
All Ireland interpro finals in Dublin National Aquatic centre May 8th 2016.
- Aaron Carroll won bronze in the 100m backstroke.
- Shona Hickey came 6th in senior 100 backstroke and 5th in freestyle.
2016 Irish Senior Open Swimming Championship May 1st.
- Rory McEvoy won gold 200m backstroke, silver in the 100m backstroke and silver in the 4x100 relay.
- Shona Hickey won gold at 800m and 1500m aged 16.
2016-2017:
- Senior boys won the Munster schools relay.
- 18 students represented the school at the Munster schools swimming in UL on November 27th with Aaron Carroll and Shona Hickey qualifying for the All Ireland finals.
2018-2019:
- Senior boys won the Munster schools relay for the second year in a row.
- Diarmuid Sutton came 4th in the 100m freestyle at the All Ireland school interpro finals in Dublin National Aquatic centre.
