Rowing is a growing sport here in Castletroy College, When our school opened in 2000, we had very few rowers representing our school but in recent years we have had great success within the rowing community and continue to go from strength to strength.
Here in Castletroy College the majority of our rowers are coming from our local club Castleconnell Boat Club also with a few representatives of St Michael’s and The Shannon Rowing Club.
Over the years we have had several students from our school represent Ireland on the international stage, competing in events such as Coupe de la Jeunesse, Home Internationals and we even had one past pupil go on to represent Ireland in The Junior World Championships.
Throughout the year students compete representing their clubs in numerous regattas. In April, our respective clubs join together to form a school team to compete in The National Schools Regatta. We have always had a very strong entry in this event always placing in the top ten schools in the country. This year we have a very strong team with both boys and girls crews ranging from 1st to 6th year.
Rowing is an excellent sport to be involved in not only does it keep you physically active but it also allows you to make new friends and be part of a very positive community. New members are always welcome to the rowing team here in Castletroy College if you are a member of a local club.
