5 Top Tips for Extra Curricular Clubs

Written by Orlaith Lynch, TY

Joining a new club may be strange or daunting if it's your first time. But it is always worth it! Extra curricular clubs are a great way to meet like minded people, make new friends and have fun during the school day.

Here are five quick tips to make sure you enjoy your time in the extracurricular clubs you join.

  1. Don't be afraid to try something new. You do not always have to be good at something to join a club. If it is something you are interested in, join! You can reconsider at a later stage if it does not work out, however, joining will be worth it.

2. Join something you are interested in. If you are interested in joining a club, your enjoyment will show through your work.

3. Don't be afraid to join a club without knowing someone. When you join a club, you will meet new people with similar interests. You can make new friends with these people and you can discuss the club with them.

4.Don’t join just because. Make sure it is you who wants to join an extracurricular club, not your friends! If the club does not interest you, it will be hard for you to participate in the club. Joining a new club with someone will make it less scary, however, there is no point if you are not interested in the club yourself.

5. Talk to people already in the clubs. A useful way to decide whether a club would suit your interests is to talk to someone who already has joined the club. This might be a friend or the activities supervisor. They can tell you more about what it involves and you can see from that if you would be interested to join.

Good Luck!
