This week we conducted an interview with Harry Mc Dermott, half forward for the Senior Hurling team following their match against Templemore on Tuesday. Coached by Mr. Reale and Mr. Gilbourne twice per week, Harry spoke about how a typical training consists of “base drills, shooting and tackling skills”, all of which aid the teams overall performance.
Telling me that the team mainly consists of “5th and 6th years, but with a few talented TY’s thrown in”, the half forward praised the teams commitment, alongside the squads very dedicated coaches. “Each player is sent a nutrition guide before match days to ensure they are well fueled and hydrated to play to the best of their ability. This is just one example of their coaches' constant support.”
It is clear to the whole school community how proud this team are to wear their jerseys, pictured above, and Harry informed us that “Martins Coaches kindly sponsor this team providing a lovely kit for matches”.
The team had a fantastic win over Cashel CC on Tuesday with a final score of Castletroy College 2:27, Cashel CC 2:14 . This is just the beginning of what we hope will be a very successful Harty Cup campaign. We wish them the very best of luck.
