Castletroy College are beginning to build momentum in their Dr. Harty Cup campaign for 2023/24. The team have been building off their performance against Hospital resulting in a fantastic performance against Carrick-on-Suir at the end of October.
The team made an impressive start at UL’s North Campus in the opening twenty minutes. An important goal scored by Mark Field in the eighth minute set the team up for a productive first half. However, Carrick-on-Suir fought their way back, leaving only a point between the teams with only ten minutes remaining. The remaining minutes were nail biting with scores from both sides respectively but Castletroy came out on top with a hard fought two point win.
We now anxiously wait for the outcome of the final group fixture between Hospital and Carrick-on-Suir next week, this game will decide if we qualify for the knockout stages.
The team are so appreciative of the support they receive from their fellow students who come to watch their games, even in the harsh elements. The majority of the team consists of 5th and 6th years but a few very talented TY students are also important members of the team.
We hope that all of the hard work done by the team and their coaches along with their constant improvement will see them advance in the competition.
